What cameras work with Kiwi?
RTSP cameras and computer webcams. Check your camera's settings for RTSP support. You can save and name multiple cameras; combined checks are experimental.
Does my video leave my home?
Kiwi runs AI and stores recordings on your computer. It does not upload footage to a cloud AI service. Optional email sends text and event times, not images. Remote viewing sends footage to signed-in family members over your configured connection. Your camera's own cloud settings are separate from Kiwi.
Can my family check in from their phones?
Yes, through a browser. Access away from home needs HTTPS or Tailscale setup. An automatic connection service is in development; hosting is not included.
Will Kiwi catch every safety issue?
No. It can miss hazards and flag harmless activity. Kiwi helps you review concerns; it does not replace supervision, emergency help, or veterinary care.
Is OpenKiwi really free?
Yes. The app is MIT-licensed with no subscription. Repository access is limited to the private preview. You provide the computer, camera, electricity, and any optional connection services.
